Holland’s “In Darkness” shortlisted for Oscar

 “In Darkness” by Polish film director Agnieszka Holland has been nominated to the Best Foreign Language Film category at this year’s Oscars.

“In Darkness” is Poland's eighth Oscar nomination in history. The film is a story of a Polish man named Leopold Socha (starring Robert Wieckiewicz), a former thief who becomes a hero. He helps a group of Jewish fugitives from the Lvov ghetto seek refuge in the city's sewers during the Second World War risking his own and his relatives’ lives.

The film has been welcomed with standing ovation in New York and at film festival in Toronto. At International Valladolid Film Festival Agnieszka Holland was awarded best director.

Other films nominated in Best foreign language film are: "Bullhead" (Belgium), "Footnote" (Israel), "Monsieur Lazhar" (Canada) and "A Separation" (Iran).
